Save Your Dough

 Apple Pie with Almond Paste

 

Every time I make egg tarts, there is always dough left. And I never know what to do with it, usually I would throw the left over dough and it's such a waste. Hence I put the leftover, from last time I made egg tarts, in a plastic bag and placed it in the freezer, for later use.

And today I decided to try it out, and made an apple pie. There was just enough dough for my 12 cm cake pan. A mini pie for two!

Recipe - Root Vegetable Chips

 

Ingredients:

Parsnips
Carrots
Sweet Potatoes
Beetroots
Vegetable Oil, for deep frying
Sea Salt


Method:
1. Peel (optional) and thinly slice the vegetables.
2. Heat oil in a deep pot, until it reaches 180C.
3. Working in small batches, fry the root vegetables until light gold and crisp.
4. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with salt.

Today I went to this cosy English café for their afternoon tea. The scones were so good and they were baked in an AGA stove! How cool is that? And how often do you get to see an AGA stove? I wish that I had one. =)

Everything in this café is for sale, the furniture, the pictures and even the stove. And every month they have an exhibition with different photographers and artists. I just love this kind of concept!

Movie Quiz

 

 

 

A friend of mine is running a movie quiz at Restaurant Danilo. This is my first time participating in a quiz. It was actually really fun. We were a party of five and none of us have ever done this before. But we were pretty satisfied about our result. This quiz made me realize that I'm awful when it comes to directors and we need to change that. =)

Lorina Sparkling Lemonade

  

Lorina Lemonade is lightly flavored, fizzy and very refreshing. And not that sugary like other soft drinks. Yum! Highly recommended!

Recipe - Japanese Cotton Cheesecake

Ingredients:
A. 160g Cream Cheese
     25g Butter
     120g Milk
B. 40g Flour
     30g Cornflour
C. 4 Egg Yolks
D. 4 Egg Whites
    120g Sugar
    Pinch of Salt

Method:

1. Grease slightly and line the bottom of a round cake pan with baking paper. Wrap outside of the pan in foil.
2. Place (A) in mixing bowl and stir over double-boiler until thick. Remove it from double-boiler and let it cool.
3. Fold in (B) and mix until well combined. Add (C) and mix until well blended.
4. Whip the egg whites in (D) until foamy. Then add the remaining (D). Continue whipping until soft peaks. Add it into the cheese mixture from step (3).
5. Pour the cheese filling onto the prepared cake pan. Bake in water bath at 160C for about 45 minutes or until set and golden brown.
6. Remove cake from the oven and remove the cake from the mould immediately. Set aside to cool.

Today I had some friends over for tea and I made egg tarts and ginger carrot cake. Just another cosy Sunday.

I just got back from kart racing. Oh My God, what a rush! Really really enjoyed it! At first, I thought that I would have problems with the speed, but after the first lap, the adrenaline kicks in and the high speed wasn't an issue anymore.
I would definitely do it again!

Winter Comfort Food

 Hot Pot is probably the best comfort food during the winter.

 

In cold weather, there is nothing better than having friends over for hot pot. It's fun, delicious and very easy to put together.

Semlor

  

Traditionellt äter man semlan i en djup tallrik med varm mjölk, och kallas då för hetvägg. Det här gamla sättet att servera en semla var väldigt vanligt i Sverige sedan 1700-talet. Jag kan tycka att det är ganska gott om man smaksätter mjölken med lite kanel/kardemumma under uppvärmningen.

Det är väl ingen nyhet att jag älskar semlor.
