See You in Tokyo!

Another great night with Love! I got home for about an hour ago, and I still haven't finished packing. I'm going to Land of the Rising Sun in just a few hours. Really looking forward to this trip to Tokyo, my first visit in Japan.
The weather looks promising! =)

Hibernation

Feels like I've been hibernating these past weeks, it's been a while since my last post. And it feels great to be back, free at last!!! So what have I been up to, frankly nothing much. Haven't done anything, didn't want to do anything either. It has been three tough weeks!

And the reason is, I've been detoxing these past three weeks. No animal products whatsoever (meat, eggs, dairy), wheat flour (!?!), coffee and alcohol (!?!). No animal products in three weeks, no problems, it's hard but I can do that. And no coffee, piece of cake! No wine, cocktails and champagne, now that's tough! No wheat flour... what an agony!! That means no breads, buns, cakes or pastries...Thank God, I'm only doing this once a year!

Yes, please!

One Day

“I’m so much better when you’re around.”

For those of you who haven't seen it yet, do not miss this movie! It's a great story about beautiful friendship, loss and love.
I personally think that the book is better, but Ann Hathaway is fantastic as Emma Morley.

I See Double

Wontons in Chilli Sauce, Cucumber-, Carrot and Radish-, and Seaweed Salad.
Duck in Steamed Buns (I really miss Ssäm Bar in NYC, when I see this dish.)

Today I went to this little new Asian/Fusion restaurant on Kastellgatan. It has only been opened a week ago, and they have had a full house since day one. The menu is simple, they have Wontons, Dumplings, Steamed Buns and some side orders. The food was ok and the price was reasonable. But what I liked the most was the lovely staff. They took good care of us and made our visit very enjoyable.

At Göteborgs Choklad & Delikatessfestival. This kind of fair is dangerous for me, I always tend to buy too much.
Perfectly Braised Pork Belly at Proviant.
PM has now been reopened after three weeks of renovation. I like it!

Great day with great company!

Bror & Syster

Bror came by a few days ago and I made him his favorite dish, Baked Pork Chops with Rice (焗豬扒), and Cantonese-style Roast Duck. My first attempt making Roast Duck and it was really fun preparing the duck.

It has been a while now since I cooked for Bror, it's always nice having him around. He sure knows how to make his sister laugh.

I heard José González live at Yaki-Da a few days ago. He's really talented! There is something very magical about a man and his guitar.

Chiffon Cake Recipe

It's after midnight, and I'm in my kitchen waiting for my Chiffon Cake to cool. The first one that I made last Friday, was ok. Mom, the person whom I'm trying to please, said that it wasn't soft and light enough. So I modified the recipe and I must say that I'm very happy with the results. The cake turned out very light, fluffy and soft.

My second attempt.

Ingredients:

Egg Yolks              6
Caster Sugar       50g
Corn Oil              50ml
Coconut Milk    120ml
Cake Flour        105g
Baking Powder     1tsp
Salt                    1/8tsp
Vanilla Sugar      1-2tsp

Egg Whites             6
Castor Sugar      145g

Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 170 degrees.
2. Whisk together the egg yolks and sugar in a large bowl until thick and creamy.
3. Mix the corn oil and coconut milk, and add it slowly to the mixture while whisking.
4. Sift flour, baking powder, salt and vanilla sugar into the batter and whisk until it's well combined.
5. Whisk the egg whites until soft peaks form, then gradually add the sugar and whisk until stiff peaks form. You know it's ready when you can flip the bowl over your head and the meringue should not fall.
6. Gently stir one third of the meringue into the batter. Then add the rest of the meringue to the batter and GENTLY fold the mixture in.
7. Pour the mixture into an ungreased baking pan.
8. Put the cake into the oven and bake it for 45 minutes.
9. Invert the cake and let it cool.
10. Use a metal spatula or sharp knife to separate the sides of the cake from the pan.

Good luck!

Classics

I bought this baking pan a few months ago and yesterday I decided to try it out, so I made Mom's favorite cake.
Orange Chiffon Cake
Dinner at Lagerhuset, Pelle Danielsson's (Restaurant Hos Pelle) new venture.
Mini Pizza, Fried Chanterelles with Toast and Marrow Bone (love marrow bones!), Pickled Mackerel with Grilled Artichoke, Pork Belly Sandwich (I'm so weak for pork belly, one day I'll tell you guys about my love for pork.)
The food was ok, Hos Pelle has definitely better food, but it's more laid back at Lagerhuset and I like the interior.
Lillan and I went to our favorite bar at Avalon Hotel yesterday and visited our favorite bartender. He spoiled us with lots of great cocktails, with ingredients like Saffron, Agave Nectar, Smoked Sea Salt, Violet, Forest Heather Sugar. Absolutely wonderful!

Lovely Tuesday

Sweater Weekday (menswear), skirt Åhlens, scarf H&M, shoes Hope
Kanelbullens Dag. I could easily eat one more cinnamon bun.
I had a great time at Tapasbaren today. This little cozy place opened for about a month ago in Majorna, my best tapas experience in Gothenburg so far. Love their Pan Con Aioli, my guess is that the bread is from their neighbor Cum Pane.
